2018 AOGS會議 - SE13子題「西太平洋區域地質災害與地體構造」

SE13子題:Submarine Tectonics and Geohazards in the West Pacific Area

Dear Colleagues, The 2018 AOGS will be held in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA on 3-8 June, and deadline of abstract submission is approaching (19 January). If your studies are related to plate tectonics and tectonics related to submarine geo-hazard, please consider the session SE13: Submarine Tectonics and Geohazards in the Western Pacific Area. The detail information is listed below. If you have any question, please contact me. We are looking forward to seeing you in Hawaii. Sincerely yours, Yi-Ching Yeh SE13: Submarine Tectonics and Geohazards in the West Pacific Area The Western Pacific is a complex region that Eurasia plate interacts with Pacific plate, which comprises several subduction systems from north to south such as Kuril Trench, Japan Trench, Ryukyu Trench, Manila Trench, Philippine Trench and etc.. Based on literatures, the subducting plate interface roughness may be associated with catastrophic and tsunami-genic earthquakes occurrence. In addition, high pore fluid pressure above plate interface may reduce friction or plate coupling between subducting plate and overriding plate, which play an important role for remarkable megathrust fault (i.e. splay fault) recurrence as evidenced by deep penetrated multi-channel seismic data as well as marine refraction seismic studies. Nevertheless, there is higher possibility that subduction earthquakes can induce submarine slope failures, which further generate high speed turbidity currents downslope or along submarine canyons. The submarine turbidity currents can also be triggered by heavy rainfall flooding on land. In the passive rifted continental margin (ex. northernmost South China Sea margin), submarine landslide can result from gravity driven or normal faults. This session welcomes authors to contribute their valuable research results not only submarine tectonics (i.e. active or passive margins) but also observations and dynamics on submarine geo-hazardsin the Western Pacific area.
